We collect limited, anonymized data to help us understand how Whspr is used and to improve the app:

• App usage statistics: How often the app is opened, which screens are viewed, and general navigation patterns
• Feature usage: Which features are used (e.g., dark mode enabled, notification settings) to help us prioritize development
• Performance metrics: App launch times, crash reports, and error logs to ensure stability
• Device information: Device model, iOS version, and app version (for compatibility and debugging)

2. What We Never Collect

The following data never leaves your device and is never collected by us:

• ❌ Message content: Your actual messages, photos, videos, or any content you share
• ❌ Metadata: Who you talk to, when you talk, message timestamps, or conversation patterns
• ❌ Contacts: Your address book or contact list
• ❌ Location data: Your physical location or IP address (except what your Matrix homeserver may log)
• ❌ Personal identifiers: No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or Matrix IDs

3. How We Use Your Data

The limited data we collect is used solely for:

• Improving app performance and stability
• Understanding which features are most valuable to users
• Identifying and fixing bugs
• Planning future development priorities

We do not:

• Sell your data to third parties
• Use your data for advertising
• Share your data with third parties except as required for app functionality (e.g., crash reporting services)
• Build user profiles or track you across apps/websites

4. Data Storage and Retention

Anonymized usage statistics are stored for up to 12 months, after which they are automatically deleted. Crash logs and error reports may be retained longer for debugging purposes but contain no personal information.

5. Your Matrix Homeserver

Whspr is a Matrix client that connects to Matrix homeservers. While Whspr itself does not collect your message content or metadata, the Matrix homeserver you choose to use (such as matrix.org, your own server, or any other) may have its own privacy policies and data collection practices. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of your chosen homeserver.

Your messages are:

• Stored on your device
• Synchronized with your chosen Matrix homeserver
• Transmitted end-to-end encrypted when possible (depending on room settings)

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the data we have about you
• Request deletion of your data
• Opt out of analytics collection (this can be done in the app settings)
• Export your data

7. Children's Privacy

Whspr is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or via email (if you've provided one for beta testing). The date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last updated.
